Isis Naija Gaston, professionally known as Ice Spice, is an American rapper who was born on January 1, 2000. Raised in the Bronx, New York City, she began her musical journey in 2021 while attending college, where she crossed paths with producer RiotUSA.

 

Ice Spice rose to prominence in late 2022 with her track “Munch (Feelin’ U)”, which gained viral popularity on TikTok. She then signed with 10K Projects in collaboration with Capitol Records and released her follow-up singles “Bikini Bottom” and “In Ha Mood” to promote her debut extended play (EP) titled Like..? (2023). The EP featured the Billboard Hot 100-charting song “Gangsta Boo” (featuring Lil Tjay), the single “Princess Diana” (with Nicki Minaj), and the deluxe edition single “Deli”.

Her father, Joseph Gaston, is African-American and used to be an underground rapper, while her mother, Charina Almanzar, is Dominican. Almanzar was 17 years old when she gave birth to Gaston, and the two parents met at a McDonald’s before eventually divorcing when Gaston was just two years old.

 

During her childhood, Gaston spent a lot of time with her grandparents and cousins. She attended school in the Bronx and later graduated from Catholic Sacred Heart High School in Yonkers in 2018. Later, on May 24, 2023, it was announced that a remix of Taylor Swift’s “Karma” featuring Ice Spice would be released on May 26, 2023. A music video for the remix, featuring both Swift and Ice Spice, was released on May 27. Pitchfork hailed 2023 as the breakout year for Ice Spice, as “Karma” reached number two on the Hot 100, solidifying Ice Spice as the artist with the most top-five singles on the chart in 2023. 

 

On June 26, she released “Barbie World” with Nicki Minaj, debuting at number 7 on the Hot 100. The deluxe version of her album Like..? was released on July 21, 2023, featuring five new tracks. Looking ahead, on November 14, 2023, Ice Spice teased her upcoming project titled Y2K! scheduled for 2024.
